Anne 19th July 2015

Dear Mary, You won’t recognise me by my name. I am the older daughter of Bishop Gilbert Baker. It was his privilege to ordain your mother as one of the first women priests in the Anglican Church. And now some fifty years on, we have our first Anglican woman bishop! I send my sympathies to you at this time of your sadness. I only met Joyce a couple of times during her long and productive life, and most recently at Joan Bakers funeral. But I know from stories and accounts of her that she was a good woman, totally dedicated to her calling and from your few words, a wonderful mother. It is always hard to loose a mother no matter what age you are - its seems to mark an end to an era - a time of reflection and rejoicing as well as pain and sorrow. So I grieve with you and your family, and rejoice with you for the life of Joyce Bennett. I will be with you in spirit on 3rd August. Yours, Anne Jones
